Plastic Jet

Take it easy, and get an explosion of color

Also known as extrusion printing, Plastic Jet Printing is a 3D printing technology that uses plastic to create 3D printed parts. It’s similar to Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), but the printers are made for strict dimensional properties.

Plastic Jet also doesn’t have a great surface finish – certainly not as good as SLA surface properties. However, it’s still fairly decent compared to other 3D printing technologies like SLS.

The only material PJP can work with is a thermoplastic. However, thermoplastics enable the creation of fairly functional, durable parts. You probably won’t be able to print a very strong part, but it will be as robust as most injection-molded plastic parts.

To get start with this technology is just necessary sent the 3D model to the 3D printer. Plastic filament extrudes through a heated nozzle and prints the part one layer at a time. The process repeats until the part is complete.

Advantages

  • Functional prototypes
  • Durable parts
  • Rapid and low cost
